The OSP technical team recently completed microbial testing for a client experiencing corrosion failures within a field producing for one year. To better understand the source of the recent failures, OSP conducted LifeCheck DNA qPCR and 16S Sequencing on samples to assess the microbial community within the produced fluids and the capacity to contribute to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). The resulting data from both samples revealed a dominant community of MIC related microbes (APB’s and sulfide producing microbes). This provides strong evidence that the experienced corrosion failures were likely exacerbated, if not caused by, the microbial activity within the produced fluids.
