Our Story

OSP Microcheck was founded in 1988 in Calgary, Alberta, by entrepreneur Michael McLennan to fill a critical need in microbial control for the oil and gas industry. Recognizing the costly impact of microbes in water systems — such as fouling, souring, and microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) — we’ve built our business around advanced testing, tailored treatment strategies, and trusted chemical solutions.

Today, we are focused on delivering specialty chemical solutions, program optimization, and technical advisory services that reduce risk, improve reliability, and protect critical infrastructure across industrial fluid systems.

Major Milestones:

1988 – OSP Microcheck is founded in Calgary, Alberta, offering specialized microbial testing and control solutions for industrial water systems and oil & gas operations.
2011 – Expanded its chemical service portfolio with the acquisition of Telomer Corporation, expanding it’s services into the USA, adding water treatment chemistries, scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, and biocides.
2014 – The OSP Microcheck and Telomer brands are unified under the OSP name, reflecting a comprehensive service model for microbial and chemical solutions in energy and industrial markets.
2017 – Launched its LifeCheck Microbial Services division, including ATP and DNA-based testing as well as training programs aimed at improving field microbial monitoring and control.
2025 – OSP Microcheck divests the LifeCheck® ATP testing division to double down on its core strengths in chemical programs, consulting, and microbial mitigation strategies across oil & gas, fuels, and water treatment systems.
2026 – Present — OSP Microcheck reinvests in innovation, expanding its chemical portfolio and tailored program design services to better support clients seeking performance-driven microbial control and water system optimization.
